Recovery Happens 2025 brought thousands of people to the State Capitol for one of the most energizing and unifying events of the year. Individuals in recovery, recovery residence operators, community advocates, and representatives from state departments—including DHCS—came together to celebrate the strength, resilience, and diversity of California’s recovery community.
The event was filled with excitement, connection, and a shared commitment to supporting recovery across the state. Attendees had the opportunity to meet one another, share stories, and stand together in recognition of the progress being made and the work still ahead.
This year’s event also saw strong support from state leaders. Assemblymember Matt Haney, Assemblymember Jackson, Assemblymember Lackey, and Senator Umberg all attended in solidarity with the recovery movement. Their presence underscored the importance of recovery housing, treatment access, and community‑based support systems.
A major highlight of the day was Assemblymember Haney’s presentation of a state proclamation recognizing the significance of Recovery Happens and honoring the recovery community. The moment was met with enthusiasm and appreciation from the crowd, symbolizing the growing recognition of recovery as a vital part of California’s public health landscape.
Recovery Happens continues to be a powerful reminder that recovery is possible, community matters, and that when people come together—advocates, providers, policymakers, and individuals in recovery—we create meaningful change.
